    The Air Force Distributed Common Ground System (AF DCGS) is a weapons system which produces military intelligence collected by systems such as: the U-2 Dragonlady, RQ-4 Global Hawk, MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1 Predator.  It consists of computer hardware and software connected together in a computer network, devoted to processing and dissemination of information such as images.  The successful candidate will support the program office during the system life cycle by providing technicial writing assistance to include efforts that support or contribute to improved performance of the organization; program/project management; engineering process and technical management; project monitoring and reporting; data collection; performance auditing; administrative technical support.


    In this role you will be responsible for the following:

    • Prepare technical documentation deliverables from notes and rough narratives from technical staff members. Write and/or edit technical documents, including systems engineering reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables. Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project or program management ensuring that final documents meet applicable DoD and USAF requirements, instructions, directives and regulations.
    • Consult relevant information sources, including technical knowledge management databases and resources, technical documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information, and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing technical documentation project deliverables.
    • Experience with technical manual development as required by the Air Force Technical Order System, Technical Manual Specifications and Standards (TMSS), contractor-developed manuals adopted for Air Force use, and procedures for approval of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) manuals.
    • Experience supporting technical data and documentation in the engineering or life cycle logistics support activities within a DoD or IC System Program Office environment.
    • Effective coordination with program managers, systems engineers, project managers, item managers, equipment specialists, contracting officers, configuration managers, data managers, testing specialists, and/or logistics managers as well as OEM contractor personnel and lead command/field operational units of similar disciplines at disparate locatiions
    • Experience with research, data mining and compilation of engineering, life cycle and other program documents and data resulting in the preparation and presentation of briefing packages, formal, or informal responses to senior leaders, or POCs from various internal or external organizations that address engineering, sustainment or logistics matters
    • Knowledge of DoD systems engineering and life cycle sustainment technical documentation requirements, processes; configuration and data management 
    • Highly proficient with use of Microsoft Office 2007 (or later) suite of products: Project, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint



    • Bachelors degree in a related field with a minimum five (5) years experience within last ten (10) years as a Technical Writer supporting DoD or IC systems engineering or life cycle logistics's
    • DoD technical writing of ISR systems engineering documentation in support of engineering software/system development, integration and life cycle sustainment.
    • Possess excellent communications skills, in particular writing and editing material; reviewing program documents and recommending editorial changes.
    • Desire to seek and assume higher levels of technical responsibility, manage time effectively across more than one initiative, and apply sound judgement
    • Demonstrate excellent relationship building and teamwork skill
    • Highly proficient with use of Microsoft Office 2007 (or later) suite of products: Project, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Must be able to travel
